The Unexpected Pit Bull Calendar
Mickey Kramer tells about… An Unexpected Experience
In June of 2007, I wrote to the folks of The Unexpected Pit Bull calendar…
For those that don’t know, the calendar is the brainchild of Jyotshna O’Hare, a volunteer at the Liberty Humane Society in Jersey City, along with the photographer, Laura Moss. The goal of the calendar is to inspire a better understanding and appreciation of Pit Bulls, to combat the negative stereotypes and raise funds for Pit Bull rescue and advocacy groups, as all proceeds of the calendar are donated.
That being said, I contacted them for two reasons; one, to see if they could send me two more calendars, despite being “sold out” and June. (They generously shipped me two, for only the cost of shipping.) My second reason was to send them a picture of Tilly, my almost-black pit bull, adopted 4 and half years ago from Earth Angels Canine Rescue, and to share the great story of five adopted pit bulls - all different ages, sizes, and colors - living on one block (mine) on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. Mrs. O’Hare, thought the photo and story was perfect, and said she’d keep in touch…
A year later, we had a photo shoot on our block with proud pit bulls Tilly, Keyser, Max, Fudge, Zeb, and all their “people”. We took pictures on the street which resulted in a gorgeous group shot that is featured in the 2009 calendar. It truly feels wonderful to be a part of something near and dear to my heart- promoting the loving, and beautiful pit bull.
Please go to: theunexpectedpitbull.com and order a calendar (or multiple calendars!)
The website also features terrific stories of pit bulls and their people…
